Overview
This aftermarket 16-inch replacement chain is designed to fit select Poulan chainsaw models. Over time every chain stretches, dulls, and eventually needs replacing. This aftermarket option matches the OEM pitch, gauge, and drive-link count so you can install it directly without modifications. A fresh chain also reduces strain on the bar and sprocket.
Key specifications
- Bar length: 16”
- Type: Semi-chisel (aftermarket replacement)
Compatibility
This chain is manufactured as a direct-fit replacement for select Poulan chainsaws listed in the compatibility section above. Always cross-check the pitch, gauge, and drive-link count stamped on your current bar before ordering — even within the same brand, different models can require different chain specs.
Installation notes
Power down the saw and remove the battery or disconnect it from power before servicing. Remove the side cover or bar-cover plate to expose the bar and sprocket. Slide the worn chain off the bar groove and sprocket, noting the direction of the cutters. Install the new chain with cutting teeth facing forward on top of the bar. Reattach the cover and adjust chain tension — the chain should pull slightly away from the bar rail and snap back without sagging.
Common questions
Q: Will this 16” chain fit my Poulan PR4016 and PL3816, or do those models use different chain sizes?
Yes, this replacement chain is made to fit the Poulan PR4016 and PL3816 that use a 16-inch bar. It is also compatible with P3816, PL1416, PR3816, and ES350 models listed, as long as your saw is set up with the factory 16-inch bar.
Q: I have a Poulan ES350 16-in gas chainsaw—do I need to replace the bar too, or can I just swap the chain?
If your bar is still straight, the groove is not excessively worn, and the nose sprocket turns freely, you can usually replace just the chain. Before installing it, clean the bar groove and oil holes, then set the chain tension so the drive links stay engaged in the bar while the chain still pulls around by hand.
Q: After installing this chain on my Poulan P3816, how tight should it be and what maintenance does it need?
On a properly adjusted chain, the links should sit in the bar groove with only a slight pull-away from the bar at the center. Check tension again after the first few cuts since a new chain can stretch slightly, and keep the chain sharpened and the bar oil reservoir full to reduce wear on both the chain and bar.
